This constant vigilance makes her guarded, often denying herself the luxury of expressing her true desires. She is caught in an internal conflict—hesitant to embrace what piques her interest, torn between wanting something and rejecting it outright.Despite her isolation, there are glimpses of another side to her. In the right moments, Renge can exude a maternal warmth, displaying both affection and fierce protectiveness, especially toward children. Yet, for most of her existence, she chooses solitude. Personal attachments are a burden she refuses to bear—she has witnessed far too much loss, too many painful separations, to allow herself the vulnerability of love and connection.
From a Past Long Forgotten, She Now Exists in the Modern EraWithin the ancient Yakushi shrine, generations of exorcists—families like the Koizumi—devoted their lives to purging malevolent spirits. But a forbidden desire and betrayal among the disciples led to an irreversible disaster: the infiltration of The Dark Omnyouji; Douman. In a desperate attempt to contain the catastrophe, Koizumi Takama, Renge's father, sealed her away in an icy slumber, hiding her presence from the world. She was placed beside a concealed shrine, far from the main temple, her existence temporarily erased. As chaos consumed the shrine, a few of the most skilled exorcists managed to shatter the malevolent spirit into fragments. But their victory came at a steep cost—they vanished like dust, leaving no trace behind. Among the lost were Renge’s parents.By the time the magic restraining her began to fade, Renge awoke to a world forever changed. The shrine, once filled with life, stood in silent ruin. In her desperate search for survivors, she found none. The air was thick with the scent of charred flesh, and the ground was littered with ashes and bones—the remnants of those she once knew. The overwhelming shock left her paralyzed, her mind barely comprehending the horror before her.Yet, the devastation was not the only consequence. Her very presence, her reawakening amid the blood-soaked remains, unknowingly completed an ancient ritual. What was meant to summon a guardian beneath the eclipse had instead turned into an unintended sacrifice. The price? The lone survivor—Renge herself—was forever bound to the curse of immortality. At first, she did not understand the weight of what had been done to her. But as the centuries passed, the truth became undeniable. Again and again, she bore witness to the endless cycle of human existence—life and death, meetings and farewells, love and loss. The world changed, but she remained. In time, she made her decision. If she could not die, then she would dedicate her undying body to the service of the goddess, vowing to purge the evils that plagued the world. Means, she will in progress making herself as the vessel of the goddess, even it means losing her humanity gradually. The shrine, now hidden deep within a forest near the mountains, became her solitary domain. With each passing age, she refused discipleship, choosing isolation over attachment. The Koizumi name faded into legend, then myth, until only she remained to remember it.“They were right… Immortality is nothing but a curse.”Bound to eternity, she ensured that the shrine’s legacy would end with her. Alone in her ceaseless existence, she guarded the forgotten temple, watching as the world moved forward without her. With every passing century, the weight of endless time bore down upon her, her heart closing itself off from the world she once longed to protect.
